New NVIDIA RTX 3000 series Ampere GPU's explained
Yesterday, there was huge online event for Nvidia.Quite possibly, one of the most important for them. After many leaks and rumours the new Nvidia GPU's based on Ampere architecture was launched.Three products were launched,RTX 3070,RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090.Along with it they announced an improved Ray tracing and DLSS support, new software features, faster GDDR6X RAM and support for PCIE Gen 4.0 and 12 pin connectors.Today,I am going to explain all about these new GPU's.
Nvidia Ampere
Before beginning with the GPU's themself let us learn about the new architecture they are based on to understand them better.
The new Ampere is based on Samsung's custom 8nm process or TMSC 7nm process, which is a huge leap from the Turing and the Pascal architecture by TMSC which were 16 nm.
This architecture brings along third generation tensor cores for faster performance, about double the transistor density from the previous generation,NVLink 3.0,PCIE Gen 4.0 Support andHigh speed bandwidth memory.
RTX 3070
We begin with the cheapest of all GPU's,the RTX 3070.Now people might think that RTX 3070 would be as powerful as say a RTX 2070 Super, but they are wrong.Nvidia claims that the performance is on par with the RTX 2080ti for more than half the price(Yeah, you read that right) and 60% faster than the RTX 2070 super. It also claims that it is best suited for 1440p or 4K gaming which would be true if the claims are spot on.
Specs-
- No word on the CUDA cores or the boost clock frequency
- Has 8 GB GDDR6 Memory
- Memory clock of 16 GHz
- Based on Samsung 8nm process
- Memory bandwidth of 512 GB/s
- TDP of 220W
RTX 3080
This is the GPU which most of them would buy for its more practical approach. This is the successor the Last generation RTX 2080 series and it holds onto that crown as well.Nvidia claims it to be twice as fast as the RTX 2080 ti and it might be true.It would be best suited for 4k gaming and Nvidia claims it is consistent in pushing 4k 60 fps in AAA titles.
Specs-
- Has 4352 Nvidia CUDA Cores
- Boost clock of 1710 MHz
- 10 GB GDDR6X memory
- Based on Samsung 8nm process
- Memory clock of 19 GHz
- Memory Bandwidth of 760GB/s
- TDP of 320W
RTX 3090
Now,we enter the premium segment of Graphics Cards, the best of the best,RTX 3090.It is the successor to the Titan RTX .It's name has been given aptly as 'BFGPU' or 'BIg Ferocious GPU'.This beast according to Nvidia is able to handle 8K gaming at 60 fps making it the the "Worlds's first GPU with 8K gaming support".It is also twice as fast as the Titan RTX.It also comes with HDMI 2.1 support meaning you can get high refresh rate, high resolution gameplay on Monitors and TV.While you might not use it for 8K gaming, what it means for us is that it might be able to push 4K gaming to new level with refresh rates you might never have imagined.
Now with level of performance expect some size too.It is said to occupy three slots which is more compared to the traditional two sloas and is 313 mm in length. It is also 10 times quieter than the Titan RTX and has silencer to it.
Specs-
- Has 5248 Nvidia CUDA Cores
- Boost clock of 1698 MHz
- Based on Samsung's 8nm process
- 24 GB GDDR6X Memory
- Memory clock of 19.6 GHz
- Memory bandwidth of 938 Gb/s
- TDP of 350W
Overall Performance Graphs
RTX 3070-₹52,000 Available from October 2020
RTX 3080-₹71,000 Available from September 4 2020
RTX 3090-₹1,52,000 Availability Unknown
These cards will be available from OEM's like ASUS,MSI,Gigabyte,Colorful and many others on Amazon and Flipkart and the Founder's Edition Cards are available on Geforce websites .
